Executives

Meet the International Development Studies Students' Association 2012-2013 Executive Team!
Elections are held every March for the Executive Team for the following school year.

Adryan Bergstrom-Borins
President

Adryan is in her third year of the International Development Studies (IDS) Co-op program. She enjoys the interdisciplinary aspect of the IDS program as it allows her to explore the many avenus of development, in particular the environment, health, anthropology, and political science (peace and conflict, and public policy). This year she is the President of the IDSSA. Her duties involve managing the executive team, coordinating events, acting as a student-body liaison with the Center for Critical Development Studies, and managing partnerships and collaborations. Adryan is also Co-chair of the International Development Conference 2013, Finance Director for Model United Nations at UTSC, and an Engagement Intern for Hillel of Greater Toronto. In her spare time (when there is any!), Adryan enjoys listening to music, watching action and sci-fi movies, satisfying her tv show addiction and travelling.

Roxanne Ma
Vice-President

Roxanne Ma is the Vice-President of the IDSSA. She is currently in her third year of studies in the International Development Studies Co-op Program at UTSC. She is also the Logistics Co-ordinator for the International Development Conference 2013 as well as the Internal Co-ordinator of the Women’s Centre at UTSC. Roxanne is particularly interested in the issues of human rights and women’s rights and hopes to bring several collaborative events with the IDSSA and the Women’s Centre this year. She enjoys drinking tea (especially jasmine tea, her favourite) and aspires to travel the world someday.

Marc Lombardo
Treasurer
Marc Lombardo is the IDSSA Treasurer, and is a second year IDS co-op student. During his time at UTSC, he has enjoyed volunteering with WUSC's Student Refugee Program. This year Marc looks forward to engaging with students from different disciplines in conversations about development through IDSSA, and is excited for the International Development Conference in February.

Jennifer Trinder
Lower-year Representative

Hi everyone! I'm Jennifer Trinder and a hopeful second-year student of IDS and economics at UTSC. I will be the Lower-Year Representative for IDSSA so feel free to talk to me for anything! I'm excited for this year just as I hope you all are too. On a more human side note, I collect the fortunes from fortune cookies, am trying to learn French and I hope to see you around campus!

Samantha Cassar
Upper-year Representative

Hi! My name is Sam and I am the Upper-Year Representative for the IDSSA. My duties include attending executive meetings, acting as a student-body liaison for the upper-year students (3rd, 4th, and 5th years), and creating and organizing events. On a more personal note, I am a lover of animals, thrift stores, farmers markets and all things "natural." I hope to one day help divert the current global food system through the empowerment of individuals. I believe that change starts with the self.

Monika Chmielewski

Marketing Director

This is Monika’s second year at UTSC and her first year as a student in IDS Co-op. She is apart of both marketing positions for the International Development Conference and the IDSSA. Originally moved from Ottawa, Ontario, after taking a year off from high school, Monika chose to move to Toronto to specialize in IDS at UTSC. With hard work and true commitment she received acceptance into the Co-op sector of IDS.

Monika’s background and native language being Polish, she didn’t start learning French and English till after the age of five. She has many interests that define her, for instance playing the piano and guitar over years now. Enjoys travelling, reading, sketching and has a passion to learn Spanish as her fourth language. Monika’s direction in International Development Studies would be to focus on minoring in global health issues. Eventually she would like to continue her Masters in health development or hunger issues. As for her plans in a co-op placement, Monika would like to base her thesis on health or hunger issues from a country in Central Africa.

Madeleine Smith
Editor-in-Chief of IDSSA Newsletter

Maddy is in her final year at UTSC specializing in IDS and minoring in Biology. This year she is looking forward to continuing to edit the IDSSA newsletter (The Chorus), and connecting the UTSC community with the events, ideas and initiatives of IDS students. Maddy is also serving as a board member for The Varsity, U of T's tri-campus newspaper. She hopes to pursue further studies in community nursing after completing her degree. In her spare time, Maddy enjoys knitting, camping, and playing music with friends.

Becky Zelikson
Social Media Coordinator

Becky is in her first year at UTSC and is part of the IDS co-op stream. As part of the IDSSA team, she is in charge of making sure all you wonderful folk get word of our events and announcements, through social media such as Facebook, this website, etc. However, she is not always hiding being the scenes! You may spot Becky at the IDSSA table or at any of the LASA Abroad events, which she organizes along with the rest of the LASA Abroad team who are going to volunteer in the Dominican Republic over Reading Week. Her other interests include reading, philosophizing, learning languages and anything that involves the outdoors.
